Colchicinum

Colchicinum – (S)N – (5,6,7,9–tetrahydro–1,2,3,10–tetrametoxy-9-oxobenzo-[α]heptalen-7-yl) acetamide is derived from bulbs of Colchicum speciosum Stev.

PHARMACOLOGICAL FEATURES:  Colchicinum has an anti-mitotic action, inducing suppression of leukocytes migration and phagocytosis, anti-inflammatory action and delaying development of amyloidosis.

THERAPEUTIC  INDICATIONS: Colchicinum  is used for the treatment of periodic illness, amilodoisis and attacks of acute podagra.

DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE: for the treatment of podagra 0.5-1 mg 3-6 times a day (no more than 6 mg. during 24hrs)  until a certain effect is achieved. And then dosage shall be decreased to 2,0-1,0-0,5 mg. during 24hrs (for several days);

for the treatment of periodic illness 1-3 tablets (more often 1-1,5 tablets) during 24hrs. Duration of treatment no less than 5 years.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Patients taking the treatment with Colchicinum shall undergo special clinical and hematological control.

As soon as blood is found in the vomit or in the faeces treatment shall be immediately ceased, and a patient shall undergo hemostatic therapy. While taking a treatment blood tests shall be done to determine if there is any hidden (occult) blood in the stool/faeces.

SIDE EFFECTS: diarrhea, leucopenia, vomit, temporary alopecia, it can cause considerable suppression of blood generation if overdosed.

CONTRAINDICATION: individual sensitivity towards the medicine. Deficiency of liver and kidney. Acute infectious and purulent diseases, pregnancy.

PRESENTATION: white coated tablets 0.001 g. (1 mg.)..

SHELF LIFE:  4 years. The drug shall not be used after the expiration date.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS: Store in a cool and dry place. Protect from light. Keep away from children. The drug is included in “A” list.0
